Privacy Policy

This policy explains what information DIY Craft Magic collects when you visit designyourfutur.com, why it is collected, and what you can do about it. It reflects how the site actually operates today. If that changes, this page will be updated.

Information you give us

You can read everything on this site without giving us anything. We only receive personal information when you choose to send it:

  • Contact form. Our contact page asks for your name, your email address and your message. That information is emailed to us so we can reply. It is not stored in a database on this website.
  • Newsletter form. If you sign up for updates we collect your email address, and nothing else, so that we can send you new projects. Every email includes an unsubscribe link.
  • Comments. If you leave a comment on a post we store the name, email address and website you enter in the comment form, together with the comment itself, your IP address and your browser user agent string. The last two help us identify spam.

Please do not send us information you would not want held in an email inbox.

Comments and profile pictures

An anonymised string created from your email address, called a hash, may be sent to the Gravatar service to check whether you have a profile picture there. If you do, that picture is shown publicly next to your comment. Gravatar is operated by Automattic and has its own privacy policy.

Information collected automatically

Like almost every website, our web server keeps standard log records of requests it receives. These typically include the IP address making the request, the date and time, the page requested, and the browser and operating system reported by that browser. We use this only to keep the site running and secure.

Cookies

If you leave a comment you may choose to have your name, email address and website saved in cookies, so you do not have to type them again next time. Those cookies last one year. If you log in to the site as an administrator or editor we set cookies to keep you logged in and to remember your screen preferences. This site also uses a caching system to serve pages faster, which may set a technical cookie so that logged-in users are shown the correct version of a page. You can clear or block cookies in your browser settings at any time.

Analytics and advertising

DIY Craft Magic does not currently run Google Analytics or any other analytics service, and does not display advertising. If we add either in future, this page will be updated before we do.

Embedded and external content

Posts on this site may include embedded content such as videos or images hosted elsewhere. Embedded content behaves exactly as if you had visited that other website, and that website may collect data about you, set its own cookies, and track your interaction with the embedded content. We also link out to other websites. Those services have their own privacy policies and we are not responsible for them.

How long we keep information

Comments and their metadata are kept indefinitely so that follow-up comments from the same person can be recognised and approved automatically. Messages sent through the contact form stay in our email inbox for as long as we need them to answer you. Newsletter subscriptions are kept until you unsubscribe.

Who we share information with

We do not sell your personal information and we do not share it for advertising. The only parties who handle it are the services that make the site work, such as our web host and the email service that delivers form messages and newsletters.

Your choices

You can ask us for a copy of the personal information we hold about you, ask us to correct it, or ask us to delete it. Use the contact page and tell us what you need. We may keep information we are required to keep for security or legal reasons.

Children

DIY Craft Magic is written for adults who craft with children. It is not directed at children, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from anyone under 13. If you believe a child has sent us personal information, please use the contact page and we will delete it.

Security

We take reasonable steps to protect the information we hold, but no website or method of transmission over the internet is completely secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security.

Changes to this policy

If this policy changes we will revise the date at the top of the page. Continuing to use the site after a change means you accept the updated policy.
